De La Cruz Bills to Expand Access to Affordable Housing Advance Committee

WASHINGTON - This week, Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) supported the House Financial Services Committee's passage of legislation to increase the supply of affordable housing nationwide, allowing more Americans to achieve their dream of owning a home.

Additionally, two pieces of legislation led by De La Cruz, the Community Bank Representation Act and the Whistleblower Protection Act of 2025, advanced through the Committee.

"Expanding access to affordable housing is my top priority as Vice Chair of the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee. This week, our Committee advanced critical legislation, including provisions I led in the House, to reduce burdensome government regulations and expand access to innovative, affordable housing solutions. I will continue to work across the aisle to ensure the dream of homeownership remains a reality for all Americans." - Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz

Background:
This week, the House Financial Services Committee passed several pieces of legislation through the Committee, including:

The Housing for the 21st Century Act:
A housing legislative package to improve federal programs and financing options, strengthen transparency, and boost housing supply by cutting government overregulation. The package includes four provisions originally introduced by De La Cruz the Housing Affordability Act, the VA Home Loan Awareness Act, the Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act, and the HUD-USDA-VA Interagency Coordination Act. The Community Bank Representation Act
The legislation led by De La Cruz ensures that banks of all sizes have a seat at the decision-making table and can put forward solutions to the challenges facing the community banking sector. Watch her Committee remarks here.

The Whistleblower Protection Act
The legislation led by De La Cruz requires all contracts, regardless of when they were created, to include key whistleblower protections. This critical change will protect employees of a HUD contractor, subcontractor, or grantee from retaliation for reporting waste, fraud, and abuse.
