Johnson County Government is again recognized as a top employer by Forbes Magazine, earning a ranking as the No. 5 best place to work in the state of Kansas according to the magazine's list of America's Best In-State Employers 2025.
The magazine used a survey of more than 160,000 employees who work for companies of more than 500 people within the U.S. to create the list.
Survey respondents were asked to recommend their current employer on a scale of zero to 10 and evaluate employers on criteria like wage parity, work culture and paths to professional advancement, according to the magazine.
Participants also rated previous employers and organizations they knew within their industry or through friends and family who worked there.
The state lists include 1,417 private and public employers from a variety of different sectors. Johnson County is the highest rated government agency in Kansas.
The county previously ranked No. 245 on the magazine's America's Best Midsize Employers 2025 list. That ranking was released in March and celebrates the top 498 companies across the entire U.S. that create great places for employees to work and is based on surveys from more than 217,000 workers at companies with between 1,000 and 5,000 employees from across the country.
In addition to its focus on efficient and innovative public service, Johnson County offers a strong organizational reputation, competitive pay and benefits, career advancement opportunities and a deep commitment to high-performance culture.
