Defenders of Wildlife Announces Mike Leahy as New Vice President of Government Relations

Defenders of Wildlife is pleased to announce Mike Leahy as its new Vice President of Government Relations. Mike brings extensive experience in wildlife, public lands, hunting and fishing policy, including more than 13 years previously spent at Defenders as Natural Resource Counsel and Director of the Rocky Mountain Region.

"Mike brings a rare combination of policy expertise, strategic judgment and deep commitment to wildlife conservation. He understands both the substance of the issues and the realities of navigating challenging political environments," said Andrew Bowman, president and CEO of Defenders of Wildlife. "Just as importantly, Mike knows Defenders, our mission and the broader conservation community exceptionally well. At a time when strong advocacy for wildlife and public lands is more important than ever, we are fortunate to welcome him back to Defenders."

Most recently, Mike served as senior director of wildlife, hunting and fishing policy at the National Wildlife Federation. Mike has also held leadership roles with the Izaak Walton League of America and the National Audubon Society.

"Defenders of Wildlife is always at the leading edge of wildlife and biodiversity conservation," said Mike Leahy, vice president of government relations at Defenders of Wildlife. Mike holds a J.D. from Georgetown University and studied Natural Resources at Cornell University.
