WHAT: The City of Lowell is working to reduce the risk of tree root intrusion impacting the underground water storage tanks and open reservoir on Christian Hill. A contractor has been hired to remove the trees that are currently impacting the water infrastructure. Following removal of the trees, the area will be restored.
WHERE: The Christian Hill underground water storage tanks and open reservoir. Impacted streets include: Richards Street, Christian Street, Beacon Street, and Reservoir Street.
WHEN: Beginning Monday, October 6, between the hours of 7 AM and 4 PM. Work is expected to be complete by the middle of November, with reseeding of the area likely Spring 2026.
WHY: Tree roots can impact the structural integrity of the underground water storage tanks.
WHO: Lowell Regional Water Utility (LRWU), Northern Tree Service (Contractor), and Woodard & Curran (Engineer).
Impact on Area: A tree removal crew will be in the area with heavy equipment. Expect minor traffic delays assisted by a police detail and traffic signage as needed. Street parking may be impacted temporarily. Typical construction noises should be expected.
