NEWS: Delaware Congressional Delegation Honors the Life of Corporal Grade One Matthew “Ty” Snook

Washington, DC - Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Congresswoman Sarah McBride (D-Del.-At Large) honored the life of Corporal Grade One Matthew "Ty" Snook, who was killed in the line of duty on December 23, 2025, at a Wilmington Division of Motor Vehicles office.

Today, Senators Blunt Rochester and Coons introduced a Senate resolution honoring Corporal Grade One Snook's act of heroism. Senator Coons and Congresswoman McBride both delivered speeches on the floors of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives that honored Corporal Grade One Snook's legacy and commitment to serving his community.

Whereas Corporal Matthew T. "Ty" Snook was a devoted law enforcement officer who served the State of Delaware with honor, integrity, and courage;

Whereas Corporal Snook was a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a coach, and a mentor whose life reflected a deep commitment to family, service, and community;

Whereas Corporal Snook was a 10-year veteran of the Delaware State Police and was widely respected by his colleagues for his professionalism and dedication;

Whereas Corporal Snook served as a field training officer beginning in 2018, helping to shape and mentor the next generation of Delaware State Troopers, and trained more than 20 troopers who continue to serve the State;

Whereas Corporal Snook was known for his love of coaching and mentoring young people, and for his steadfast commitment to the community he served;

Whereas On December 23, 2025, Corporal Snook was tragically killed in the line of duty while working an overtime assignment at a Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) facility near New Castle, Delaware;

Whereas Corporal Snook was killed during an act of senseless violence while protecting DMV employees and members of the public during the holiday season;

Whereas More than 50 employees and members of the public were present at the facility at the time of the shooting, and Corporal Snook gave directions and pushed an employee out of harm's way, even after being wounded himself, to save the lives of others while giving his own;

Whereas Delawareans have mourned the loss of Corporal Snook and recognized his extraordinary sacrifice;

Whereas Corporal Snook's service exemplified the highest ideals of law enforcement and public service;

Whereas Corporal Snook is remembered as an American hero whose legacy will endure through his family, the Delaware State Police, and the community he served; and

Whereas Corporal Snook's sacrifice stands as a solemn reminder of the risks faced daily by law enforcement officers across the Nation: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Senate -

  1. Honors the life, service, and sacrifice of Corporal Matthew T. "Ty" Snook of the Delaware State Police;
  2. Expresses its deepest condolences to the family of Corporal Snook, including his wife and daughter;
  3. Recognizes and commends Corporal Snook for his noble sacrifice in the line of duty; and
  4. Reaffirms its support for law enforcement officers and public servants who dedicate their lives to keeping our communities safe.
