Vero Beach, FL - On Saturday, U.S. Congressman Mike Haridopolos (FL-08) announced the winners of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition, recognizing the extraordinary talent and creativity of high school students from across Florida's Space and Treasure Coasts.
"This year, we received more than 62 submissions from six different schools across Florida's Eighth Congressional District, and I am truly blown away by the level of talent on display," said Congressman Mike Haridopolos. "These students are not just creating art-they are telling stories about who we are as a community and what makes our country so special. The future is bright because of young leaders like these."
The first-place winner, Freedom at Sea by Ekaternia Combs, Saint Edward's High School, will have her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. In addition, she will be invited to attend a national reception celebrating winners from across the country.
The second-place winner, Free from the Hand by Matthew Barrett, Saint Edward's High School, will have his artwork displayed in Congressman Haridopolos' Washington, D.C. office.
The third-place winner, Concrete Jungle by Aerin Wyman, Cocoa Beach High School, will have her artwork displayed in Congressman Haridopolos' district office.
The Congressman also recognized several honorable mentions for their outstanding submissions:
Best of Drawing: Tranquil Lagoon Waters by Joseph Tomberg, Saint Edward's School
Best of Painting: All at Once by Christina Wang, Saint Edward's School
Best of Photography: A Glimpse Within by Lillian Mascolino, Indian River Charter High School
Best of Digital Art: We are Freedom by Lindsey Bonilla Fuentes, Indian River Charter High School
Best of Mixed Medium: 2020 GT500 Ford Shelby Mustang by Sophia Case, Merritt Island High School
Background:
Each spring, the nationwide Congressional Art Competition gives students the opportunity to showcase their artistic abilities. The competition is open to all high school students and is judged by a panel of local artists and community leaders.
