Open Call for Artists: Now Accepting Applications for the Painted Horses Public Art Project

Apply for the second-round open call by October 28, 2025

DAVIE, Fla. - The Town of Davie is conducting a second open call for six artists interested in participating in the Painted Horses public art project. Applications will be accepted now through October 28, 2025. The artists selected will be chosen to design and fabricate a painted design on a fiberglass horse sculpture.

The artwork should reflect the theme "Historical Cultures of Davie". The primary focus areas for the artwork should include, but not be limited to, areas of farming and fruit groves, education, cowboys and rodeo, flora and fauna. Each artist selected will be compensated $2,000 for completing their painted horse.

Requirements:

  • Artists residing in Broward County are eligible to apply.
  • Acrylic paint, artificial resin paint or two-component paints are the only accepted mediums to be utilized on the horse. All paint must be UV resistant.
  • Artwork must be original in concept, design, and execution and of the artists' own creation.
  • Logos or words cannot be used in the design.
  • Utilize the supplied template to submit a design.
  • Artists can submit up to three designs.

To apply, artists must complete the registration form to be considered for the program www.davie-fl.gov/PaintedHorsesArt.

About the Public Art Project:

This public art project aims to add a creative touch by displaying Davie's equestrian heritage through painted fiberglass horse sculptures across Town parks and facilities. This beautification effort will enhance the experience for visitors and residents alike.

The Town of Davie Public Art Advisory Committee will serve as the selection committee to recommend proposed artwork for Town Council approval. The Town will select one design from each artist.
