Opportunity shouldn't depend on where you start - and at Bloomberg, we're working to make sure it doesn't. That belief is at the heart of Bloomberg Finance Pathways, our global initiative bringing together influential leaders across the public and private sectors to demystify the field of finance for the next generation. The program also deepens Bloomberg's relationships with leaders across the financial and policy landscape - strengthening its role as a convener in the global finance ecosystem, ensuring that insights flow both to the next generation and between key stakeholders.
We know that talent is everywhere, but access isn't. By giving young people hands-on learning, mentorship, and real exposure to financial markets, we're helping them gain the confidence - and the network - to succeed. Because when more individuals can take part in finance, the whole system becomes stronger, smarter, and more inclusive. "By connecting students with influential voices from across industries, we're providing them with the tools and experience to realize their potential and helping to make the finance industry more accessible and future-ready," says Jemma Read, Global Head of Corporate Philanthropy.
In mid-November, fifteen university students traded lecture halls for the corridors of power. Over three days in Brussels, they joined the Bloomberg Finance Pathways Study Trip - a journey into the heart of European finance.
Their itinerary read like a masterclass in how ideas shape economies. At the European Commission, they sat across from Maria Luís Albuquerque, who leads the EU's work on financial services, and Paulina Dejmek Hack, Head of Cabinet to Commissioner Jessica Roswall - two of Europe's most influential women driving the continent's financial future.
It was the Commissioner's first engagement with the program, and she didn't hold back. In a candid Q&A, students asked about everything from financial literacy to navigating setbacks. The exchange was honest, lively, and deeply human - a reminder that finance is as much about resilience and perspective as it is about policy.
"Hearing directly from the Commissioner about her journey from national politics to the European stage was both inspiring and eye-opening," said one student. "It showed us that leadership in finance isn't just about numbers - it's about values and resilience."
