HARRISBURG - Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) today announced three projects totaling $1.4 million that are receiving significant funding to meet necessary local infrastructure needs.
"The Chambersburg area continues to see significant growth. With that comes significant challenges, as well. Infrastructure projects are costly but necessary to both sustain and improve the quality of life in our local municipalities. These are important infrastructure projects for which I worked to bring funding back to our area," said Kauffman.
• Greene Township - $685,000 for phase II of the North Chambersburg Improvements Project, which includes extending Fifth Avenue. The project includes a walking path between Parkwood Drive and Kohler Road, the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Parkwood Drive, and the construction of a three-legged roundabout at the intersection of Kohler Road and the future Fifth Avenue expansion. The project will improve the existing transportation infrastructure, reduce congestion, and support existing and future development in the North Chambersburg area.
• Greene Township Municipal Authority - $400,000 to make improvements to the sanitary sewer system by replacing aged pipes and other upgrades.
• Guilford Water Authority - $335,000 to expand water main line in Greene Township, which will improve water pressure and water system reliability.
Kauffman said the municipal and water authorities received PA Small Water and Sewer Program grants, which assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply system, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system or flood control projects.
The North Chambersburg Improvements Project received funding under the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which can be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
Both programs' funding is awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency that administers Pennsylvania's economic stimulus packages.
