Hey ThredUpCommunity,
I'm writing with exciting news: In celebration of our sixteenth anniversary, ThredUp just got an UPgrade! We've reimagined how secondhand should look, feel, and work-with fresh features and a new look to help you find, inspire, and recirculate your style.
For almost two decades, ThredUp has been on a mission to fight the impact of fast fashion on our planet. Thanks to you, secondhand has gone mainstream. 3 out of 4 people now shop or sell pre-loved items every year. But even though thrifting has taken off, our mission isn't done.
You've always loved ThredUp for what we are and what we'll always be: a place to find quality clothes you love at great prices, all while shopping sustainably. Now we want to take it further, showing the world that secondhand isn't just the affordable, ethical choice. It's also stylish, inspiring, and joyful.
Many customers tell me that, even as life feels busier than ever, they still strive to shop with intention while finding ways to express their style and identity. We get it: You want the thrill without the scroll, the polish without the price tag, the impact without compromise, and the earnings without the effort. And we want to give you more.
Today, I'm excited to share some big changes we've made to better align with how you live, shop, and dress today. We're introducing more tools, more style, and more inspiration-so you can look good, feel good, and do good when shopping on ThredUp.
So, what's changed?
More Style, Less Scroll: You have a new, more personalized homepage thanks to your Daily Edit, which is a collection of 100 items we think you'll love, refreshed daily and based on your personal style. We've also launched a new Collections tool, which gives you the ability to organize and build shareable lists of your favorite items on ThredUp.
New Inspiration Tools: Check out The Trend Report, a new feature on your homepage, which surfaces the most popular and rising shoppable trends from around the internet, and refreshed weekly. It's meant to spark ideas and inspiration. And, don't miss the Shop Social feature, either. Just upload your Pinterest board or Instagram inspo to discover shoppable items that match.
Confidence in Every Purchase: We've been rolling out additional and more detailed item photos with 360* viewing, more accurate measurements, and richer material filters that take the guesswork out of secondhand shopping.
Time-Saving Selling Options: To save you time and make returning your Clean Outbag easier, you can now schedule low-cost bag pickups right to your front door. Or, send in your clothes with your ThredUp returns.
And of course, our commitments haven't changed: We're steadfast on keeping clothes out of landfills and prices low. To date, we've prevented 1.1B of CO2 emissions, saved 11.5B gallons of water and 2.1B KW of energy, processed 230M secondhand items, and saved our shoppers an estimated $7.6B off estimated retail prices… that's still up to 90% off estimated retail.
You'll also notice a refreshed ThredUplook, meant to be cleaner and more balanced to match the modern online shopping experience you deserve.
One part I'm especially proud of is our new emblem. It's a nod to the infinite cycle of secondhand fashion: Keeping clothes living in closets forever instead of ending up in landfills, and endless style possibilities. It's also a "T," drawn like a thread, symbolizing not just the thread of ThredUp but also the thread that connects us all to this movement.
At ThredUp, we believe that a better future for fashion doesn't have to wait. It starts with small, meaningful choices: Wearing what you already own. Letting go of what no longer serves you or finding joy in what does. And choosing secondhand first. It's about reimagining how we consume, express ourselves, connect with each other, and value what we have and what we give away.
Shopping secondhand can turn the past into the future, and make the future of fashion feel good-for your wallet, your wardrobe, and the world.
Thank you for being on this journey with us.
James, ThredUp CEO
