Driver Charged in Fatal Crash Involving Juvenile on Electric Scooter

HENDERSON, Nev. (Oct. 24, 2026) - The Henderson Police Department is releasing new information about the October 21 crash on Racetrack Road involving a juvenile riding an electric scooter. The juvenile, a 14-year-old female, succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at University Medical Center despite all life-saving measures.

The driver, identified as Michael Stanton, 64, has been charged with Vehicular Manslaughter, Failure to Exercise Due Care for a Pedestrian, and Overtaking a Vehicle Stopped at a Crosswalk.

On October 21, 2026, at approximately 3:08 p.m., the Henderson Police Department and Henderson Fire responded to calls of a traffic collision involving a juvenile riding an electric scooter and a 2012 Nissan Rogue SUV on Racetrack Road, approximately 500 feet north of Blue Lantern Drive.

A preliminary investigation found that a 14-year-old female was riding a legal electric scooter from the Saguaro Park Trail and crossing Racetrack Road in a marked crosswalk. Vehicles in the adjacent lane had slowed or stopped at the crosswalk as she crossed. The southbound SUV approached from behind, passed those vehicles, and continued into the marked crosswalk without stopping, striking the juvenile. Impairment and speed were not factors in this crash. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.

The juvenile was transported to University Medical Center by medical personnel. Despite all life-saving measures, she succumbed to her injuries on October 24, 2026.

The name of the juvenile will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
