U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Chuck Grassley, Ron Johnson, Colleagues Call For Investigation Into FBI, DOJ Records Detailing Secret Phone Tapping of Sitting Congressional Members

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) joined Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), and several of their Republican colleagues to demand that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) produce all records relating to the Biden FBI's successful efforts to secretly obtain phone data from Members of Congress as part of its Arctic Frost investigation. The lawmakers are also requesting DOJ seek judicial authorization to gain access to relevant records which are subject to federal grand jury secrecy requirements.

"Given that these materials relate to an unprecedented collection of records and information on sitting [Members of Congress] and raise serious constitutional concerns, Congress' need for these records clearly outweighs any interest in secrecy," the lawmakers wrote. "Further, the unprecedented nature of the DOJ's and FBI's actions in collecting [Members of Congress'] communication records falls squarely within Congress' constitutional duty to thoroughly investigate potential abuses of power and creates a uniquely exceptional circumstance that demands the release of otherwise protected records."

An explosive new FBI document revealed that the FBI targeted eight Republican senators' personal cell phones as part of its Arctic Frost investigation, which ultimately formed the basis of Jack Smith's elector case against President Trump. Senator Britt called the Biden FBI's actions "indefensible" and called for everyone from the Biden administration involved in the decision to secretly obtain cell phone records related to Members of Congress to be held accountable.

In addition to Senators Britt, Grassley and Johnson, all Members of Congress known to have been targeted as part of Arctic Frost and all Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee joined the letter, including, Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.), and Ashley Moody (R-Fla.).
