NCPC Honored for Recent Planning Efforts

NCPC is excited to receive two awards that recognize the agency as a proud leader of planning in the National Capital Region.

James V. Forrestal Building TAP Report

NCPC, alongside the Public Buildings Reform Board (PBRB) and ULI Washington, was presented with the Outstanding Technical Planning Project Honor Award, the American Planning Association Federal Planning Division's top honor, for the James V. Forrestal Building Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) Report.

The report recommended razing the aging federal complex and redeveloping the 1.7 million square foot site into housing, cultural, hotel, office, and retail space, creating a gateway between the National Mall and the Southwest Waterfront.

This work represents a generational opportunity to re-envision and beautify the federal city. NCPC is proud to have partnered with PBRB and ULI Washington on this effort and looks forward to helping guide the future of the capital's monumental core.

Monumental Core Streetscape Guide and Construction Manual

NCPC was recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architecture's Potomac Chapter with a 2026 Merit Award for the Monumental Core Streetscape Guide and Construction Manual in the Public and Non-Profit Projects category.

The Streetscape Guide is a resource that helps shape the look and feel of the streets at the heart of the nation's capital and gives federal and District agencies, property owners, and design and construction professionals a shared framework for coordinating streetscape improvements across the monumental core.

It brings together an urban design framework, design guidelines, and construction details and specifications so that public spaces are consistent, welcoming, and reflect Washington's iconic identity. The guide also connects the monumental core with the city's surrounding neighborhoods.
