Metro Board Approves San Vicente-Fairfax Route as Locally Preferred Alternative for K Line Northern Extension to Serve the City of West Hollywood, Mid-City, and Hollywood

The City of West Hollywood is getting the word out that the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board of Directors today - Thursday, March 26, 2026 - voted at its regular meeting to approve the San Vicente-Fairfax alignment as the Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) for the Metro K Line Northern Extension Project, a major step forward in bringing rail transit service to West Hollywood.

The Board motion is contingent upon the formation of an Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District (EIFD) by the City of West Hollywood in coordination with Los Angeles County.

"I'm thrilled that the Metro Board has voted affirmatively to move forward with the K Line Northern Extension," said City of West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman. "I'm grateful for the leadership of L.A. County Third District Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts, Jr., and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in advancing this project and continuing to expedite the environmental review process. The San Vicente-Fairfax alignment will serve the greatest number of people and connect with key east-west transit lines. It will be truly transformative for West Hollywood and communities across Los Angeles County."

The K Line Northern Extension Project will expand Metro rail service north from the current terminus and will connect West Hollywood, Mid-City, and Hollywood with high-quality rail service. The San Vicente-Fairfax alignment was identified as the preferred route following years of technical study and extensive community engagement. The project is anticipated to place more than 125,000 jobs within a half mile of new Metro stations, significantly expanding access to employment and reducing reliance on car travel.

Today's Metro action marks a critical advancement in the environmental review process and brings the project closer to final design, funding, and eventual construction.
