Tero Jokilehto, Senior Ministerial Adviser at the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, has been elected chair of the Inland Surface Transport Group for the next three years. The Inland Surface Transport Group is a sub-group of the Transport Group, which is one of the planning groups under NATO's Resilience Committee.
The Inland Surface Transport Group advises and makes recommendations especially on matters concerning military mobility on road, rail and inland waterways. It also advises on questions related to ports and intermodal transport and on all matters concerning transport chains.
"I look forward to working together with NATO member states and partner nations. Our focus will be on consulting extensively with NATO's civilian experts when giving the Alliance advice and recommendations," Jokilehto said.
NATO's Resilience Committee guides resilience activities within the Alliance. It aims to ensure the continuity of vital functions of society and government and the support for soldiers in their wartime tasks.
The Transport Group under the Resilience Committee has three sub-groups: civil aviation, inland surface transport and ocean shipping. The Ministry of Transport and Communications' branch of government exerts influence in all these groups as well as in the Resilience Committee's Civil Communications Planning Group.
Jokilehto will transfer to the position of chair of the Inland Surface Transport Group from the position of vice-chair of the Civil Aviation Group which he has held since November 2024.
