France welcomes the Lebanese government's endorsement of the plan proposed by the Lebanese army to re-establish the state monopoly on weapons throughout the country's territory. This is a positive new step, in line with the Lebanese government's decision of 5 August.
The Minister spoke with his Lebanese counterpart, Mr. Youssef Raggi, on 5 September, to underscore France's backing for the Lebanese government's efforts.
France calls on all Lebanese stakeholders to support an immediate and peaceful rollout of the plan, so as to deliver a stable, sovereign, rebuilt and prosperous Lebanon, with guaranteed territorial integrity, within borders agreed with its neighbours, with whom it can share peaceful relations.
Alongside its European, American and regional partners, France shall continue to stand by the Lebanese authorities as they implement their commitments, through its participation in the November 2024 ceasefire monitoring mechanism, its support for the Lebanese armed forces and its contribution to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). France stands ready to organise two conferences in support of the Lebanese armed forces and of recovery and reconstruction when conditions allow.
France also reiterates its call for Israel to fully respect the commitments that it undertook as part of the 26 November 2024 ceasefire agreement and to withdraw from South Lebanon.
