PR No. 219 National Monsoon Coordination Conference Held at NEOC, NDMA Headquarters

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) convened a Monsoon Coordination Conference at the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), NDMA Headquarters, Islamabad, bringing together representatives from relevant federal ministries, provincial disaster management authorities, district disaster management authorities, humanitarian partners and key stakeholders to review preparedness measures for the ongoing monsoon season.

The conference focused on assessing the prevailing weather outlook, potential flood risks, and preparedness measures to ensure a coordinated national response to anticipated monsoon-related hazards. Participants reviewed contingency plans, inter-agency coordination mechanisms and resource readiness to minimize the impact of heavy rainfall, urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides.

During the conference, Team NDMA presented a comprehensive overview of the National Emergencies Operation Center's operational capabilities, emphasizing the use of advanced forecasting technologies, impact-based early warning systems, real-time monitoring, and data-driven decision-making to strengthen disaster preparedness and response across the country.

Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, HI (M), chaired the conference and underscored the importance of proactive planning, timely dissemination of early warnings, and effective coordination among federal ministries, provincial disaster management authorities, district administrations, rescue services, humanitarian partners, and other stakeholders. He stressed the need for enhanced preparedness, rapid information sharing, and efficient resource mobilization to safeguard vulnerable communities during the monsoon season.

The participants were briefed on NDMA's integrated coordination framework, including multi hazard alerts, flood monitoring, risk communication, anticipatory actions, and emergency response planning. Special emphasis was placed on strengthening coordination between national and provincial institutions to ensure timely decision-making and effective disaster response.

The conference also reviewed preparedness measures for high-risk areas, including flood-prone districts, urban centers vulnerable to waterlogging, and mountainous regions susceptible to landslides and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs). Participants discussed operational readiness, evacuation planning, public awareness initiatives and the availability of emergency resources.

The conference concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to maintain close coordination and ensure a unified national response throughout the monsoon season to protect lives, livelihoods and critical infrastructure.
