On Friday, September 26, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa opened the Latvia-Germany Business Forum in Rostock, emphasizing that Latvia is ready to foster closer economic cooperation with Germany, particularly with the northern German region. The forum brought together more than 170 representatives from over 100 Latvian companies and institutions - the largest Latvian business delegation abroad to date.
"Our goal is to achieve tangible results for the people of Latvia and Germany - to generate new investments, expand high value-added exports, and strengthen business networks. Latvia is a reliable partner offering a stable energy environment, a competitive tax system, digital services, and dynamic growth in the defense industry," stressed the Prime Minister.
According to Siliņa, Latvia is a country with high investment returns, digital and modern solutions, a competitive tax system, and an accessible "green corridor" for large-scale projects.
"At the same time, the real estate market has become more active this year, with Riga overtaking Tallinn in the new housing segment," noted the Prime Minister.
After the forum, Siliņa held a bilateral meeting with Manuela Schwesig, Prime Minister of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Both officials praised the cooperation so far. Schwesig particularly welcomed the agreement reached with the company Rheinmetall on the development of a munitions factory in Latvia. For her part, the Latvian Prime Minister emphasized that both the agreement with Rheinmetall reached this week and the deal concluded earlier this year with German airline Lufthansa confirm that Latvia is a safe and promising place for investment.
During the meeting, it was agreed that Latvia will become a partner country and, together with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, will co-organize the international digital conference NORD in 2026. This will provide Latvian companies and experts with an opportunity to showcase their strengths in the field of digital solutions.
Siliņa also highlighted the importance of wider availability of German language learning in Latvian schools, which will be strengthened in close cooperation with the German Embassy. She noted that this is an important contribution to future cooperation not only in the economy but also in science and other fields.
The officials also discussed assistance to Ukraine, especially the Chernihiv region, where Latvia provides support not only financially and militarily but also by helping women, children, and soldiers overcome the traumas of war.
Over the past five years, German investment in Latvia has grown by 27 %.
"Latvia is actively working to ensure even more favorable conditions for foreign investors. The Latvian delegation has been warmly welcomed in Rostock. Now it is important to achieve practical and concrete results," said Siliņa.
