WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-ME) released a statement after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy:
"Today's call with President Zelenskyy and a bipartisan group of members of both the Senate and the House was welcome, informative, and couldn't have been more important. He repeated his openness to an energy ceasefire with Russia if they would agree to one as well. Further, he confirmed that Ukraine's technological and intelligence support from the U.S. has recently been cut back, leaving the Ukrainian people more vulnerable to Russian missile attacks aimed at civilians. President Zelenskyy could not have been more grateful in his comments, or more generous with his time. As I told him personally when I visited Kiev, Ukraine's fight is that of the free world.
"It's important to remember that Ukrainians are doing the fighting and the dying against an unprovoked and thoroughly illegal attack by Russia. The United States should extend its support and utilize our alliances with freedom-loving nations worldwide to strengthen their efforts. All those on the call across the political spectrum communicated that shared goal."
