Southwest Colorado - On Friday, Oct. 10, motorists will encounter lengthy road closures on US Highway 550 between Purgatory Ski Resort and Silverton to allow for safe transport of modular housing units to the Town of Silverton. The transport operation will require two hour full closures from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Motorists will be stopped in both directions and are encouraged to schedule travel around the morning and afternoon closure periods.
Closure Schedule
Closures are scheduled to take place over a one-day period and may be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Morning Closure: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Afternoon Closure: 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Traffic Impacts
Motorists will encounter full traffic stops at the following locations:

Northbound Closure: Motorists traveling northbound from Durango will be stopped between Purgatory Ski Resort and Cascade Village (Mile Points 49 to 50)

Southbound Closure: Motorists traveling southbound from Silverton with encounter a closure just south of the WhistleStop Gas Station (MP 70)

Side Street Access: Flaggers will be stationed at high traffic intersections along the closure route to stop motorists attempting to access US 550 during the scheduled closure times
