Students from Wake Forest University School of Medicine who help lead the fair look to build upon the record success of last year's event, which was attended by over 300 people from across the region.

"We're addressing different social drivers of health, increasing awareness to preventive care and really trying to create long-term relationships with our community members and getting them established in the healthcare system," said Maitha Ali, a Class of 2028 medical student at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. "As medical students, we're driven by wanting to make a positive difference in people's lives. Being able to listen to people's experiences will make us better physicians in the future and I feel like this event builds trust between the medical community and the community that we serve."

There will be representatives on site to provide consultations regarding health insurance and legal resources, such as living wills and advance healthcare directives. Participants will also receive a goody bag while supplies last with essential items, such as toothbrushes, soap and fresh produce.

"I come from a very rural community and so, going to this event and being able to provide access to these basic healthcare necessities to a large population that needs them is really impactful," said Karla Garcia, a Biomedical Science program student at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
