TFD Responds to Structure Fire on Villamore Avenue

At 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, Tallahassee Fire Department crews responded to a reported structure fire on Villamore Avenue involving a workshop located behind a residence. While en route, firefighters observed a heavy column of black smoke in the area. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the back corner of the property and quickly began fire attack using 1¾-inch hose lines while simultaneously conducting a search of the nearby dwelling.

The fire involved a detached workshop and did not extend into the residence. The homeowner had attempted to extinguish the fire prior to firefighters arriving and sustained smoke inhalation while trying to rescue his animals. Firefighters assisted and successfully rescued three dogs from the area.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes. A search confirmed that no occupants were inside the structure.

Leon County EMS, Tallahassee Police Department and City of Tallahassee Utilities assisted on scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The home remained livable and Red Cross assistance was not required.
