Kansas women sentenced for possessing a gun while trafficking drugs

WICHITA, KAN.- A convicted felon was sentenced to 105 months in prison after law enforcement found drugs and an illegal firearm in her vehicle.

According to court documents, Alexis G. Ibarra, 27, of Wichita pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

In January 2026, the Wichita Police Department (WPD) stopped Ibarra for a traffic violation. Her driver's license was suspended at the time. Officers discovered she had a pistol under the driver's seat and ammunition in the center console. Ibarra cannot legally have firearms or ammunition because of a previous felony conviction.

Officers found approximately 131 grams of pure methamphetamine in the vehicle. Ibarra admits to selling methamphetamine in Wichita and Garden City.

"The combination of illegal drugs and firearms fuels violence in our neighborhoods. That's why the Department of Justice aggressively pursues these cases and seeks enhanced penalties to prevent further harm by drug traffickers," said U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Wichita Police Department investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Katie Andrusak prosecuted the case.
