June 22 Community Lecture in Millersville Honors Conestoga as PA River of the Year

A June 22 community lecture at the Millersville Borough facility, 100 Municipal Drive, will share the history and importance of the Conestoga River and highlight the ongoing work to conserve and improve this important waterway, which was named 2026 Pennsylvania River of the Year. The event, sponsored by the Borough, Millersville University and the Conestoga River Club, will begin at 6 p.m. and is open to the public free of charge. The lecture will feature several speakers:

• Justin Mando, Ph.D., co-director of Millersville University's Watershed Education Training Institute. Located on Millersville's campus at Creek Lodge, WETi serves as a center for science education, connecting watershed research to meaningful teaching and learning experiences.
• Phil Lastowski, Millersville Borough mayor
• Malinda Harnish Clatterbuck, executive director of the Conestoga River Club. The Club nominated the Conestoga River for the Pennsylvania River of the Year Award and received a $15,000 Leadership Grant to fund a slate of activities. They are partnering with Millersville University and Millersville Borough to honor the recognition.
• Les McMullen, Millersville Borough wastewater treatment plant superintendent
• Allyson Gibson, executive director for the Lancaster Clean Water Partners, a countywide collaborative partnership of organizations with a shared vision to ensure clean and clear local water by 2040.
