COLUMBUS, OHIO - State Representatives Mark Hiner (R-Howard) and Kevin Miller (R-Newark) today announced that the Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 430, legislation they jointly sponsored that dedicates a section of State Route 13 in Mount Vernon, Knox County, as the "Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Vance M. Andrews Memorial Highway."
Lt. Andrews served with the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 12 years, stationed out of Columbus. On November 21, 1945, while patrolling State Route 13 near Mount Vernon, Lt. Andrews tragically lost his life when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a bridge abutment.
"Though Lt. Andrews passed nearly 80 years ago, it remains important that we honor his sacrifice and the service he gave to keep our communities safe," said Rep Hiner.
HB 430 will honor Lt. Andrews' memory by designating a portion of Route 13 in Mount Vernon as the "Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Vance M. Andrews Memorial Highway." The dedication aims to both commemorate his service and provide a lasting reminder to motorists and the community of the bravery and sacrifice of Ohio's law enforcement officers.
"The dedication of this roadway is to ensure the sacrifice of Lt. Andrews will be remembered for generations to come," said Rep. Miller
House Bill 430 now goes to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
