U.S. Senator Katie Britt Celebrates House Passage of Lulu’s Law, Releases Statement Ahead of Bill Signing

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) today joined Lulu Gribbin of Mountain Brook, Alabama, and her family on the floor of the United States House of Representatives to celebrate passage of Lulu's Law. This bipartisan legislation was originally introduced in the Senate in July of 2024 and passed the Senate unanimously in July of 2025 in honor of Lulu and to help prevent tragedies like the one she experienced from happening to anyone in the future. Representative Gary Palmer (R-Ala.) is the House sponsor of Lulu's Law. The bill will now head to President Trump's desk to be signed into law.

Under Lulu's Law, shark attacks will be codified as events for which the Federal Communications Commission will transmit warnings through wireless emergency alerts when a shark attack occurs so other beachgoers can be alerted to unsafe water conditions. On June 7, 2024, Lulu Gribbin sustained nearly fatal injuries when a shark attacked her and her friend, McCray Faust. Another woman, Elizabeth Foley, had been attacked just 90 minutes earlier and a few miles away.

"I'm thrilled that Lulu's Law has passed the House with overwhelming support after passing the Senate last July, and I'm especially thankful to Representative Gary Palmer who helped usher this important legislation through the House Energy and Commerce Committee and to the House floor for a full vote. Lulu's Law will soon be signed into federal statute and as a result, families and beachgoers will be safer. Lulu's Law received strong bipartisan support in both the Senate and the House. Senators Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), and Chris Coons (D-Del.) cosponsored this legislation in the Senate. In the House, Representatives Shomari Figures (D-Ala.), Terri Sewell (D-Ala.), and Eugene Vindman (D-Va.) are cosponsors.
