Montgomery County Launches New “montgomerycountymd.gov” Website The New Site is Designed to Make Information and Services Easier to Access

Montgomery County launched a new, refreshed website, www.montgomerycountymd.gov, as part of the Web 2.0 Redesign Project. The new site is designed to provide a modern, community-centered digital experience to help residents, businesses, and visitors find information faster, complete tasks more easily, and connect with County services online.
"We listened to residents and designed the new County website so that's it's easier to navigate and find information, including on mobile devices, which is how most people come to the site these days," said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. "We're also improving accessibility and supporting multiple languages to help ensure all site visitors can get to the services and information they need. And we'll continue to listen and make improvements that benefit the communities we serve."
With more than eight million visits in the past 12 months-over half from mobile devices-the County website plays a critical role in connecting residents and businesses to services and information. The redesign aims to improve access and ensure the site's long-term sustainability.
Public input played a pivotal role in shaping the redesign. Insights from a survey of over 5,700 users revealed that almost 60% accessed the site via mobile devices, with many expressing challenges in locating information and navigating across various County departments.
The new website was built to directly address this feedback and more. Key features include:
- Improved search to help users find services and information faster.
- A modern, unified design that provides consistent user experience across departments.
- Mobile-friendly design that works across devices.
- Meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 level AA standards and includes multilingual support for a more inclusive experience.
- Improved site security, reliability, performance, and long-term sustainability provided by the CitizenForward® platform, a technology platform built for government websites.
The new site was designed in partnership with Interpersonal Frequency who has worked on several County government websites, including Solano County, CA, Cobb County, GA, and Johnson City, KS.
The launch represents Montgomery County's most significant website modernization since 2016 and supports ongoing efforts to improve digital services through strategic investments in technology, analytics and customer-focused solutions.
