Central Oklahoma Long Range Transit Plan Information

September 25, 2025

The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG), along with additional regional stakeholders, are conducting a Long Range Transit Plan (LRTP) for Central Oklahoma. The plan will consider modifications to local transit services in response to planned high-capacity regional transit investments. The LRTP will also consider additional investments to facilities, transfer points, and transit infrastructure to improve regional mobility and consolidate previous planning efforts.

The outcome of the LRTP will be an implementation plan for transit in the region that will seek to achieve the following vision statement: Develop an intentional plan for a cohesive network of transit services that supports growth, promotes equity, enhances quality of life, and facilitates opportunities across Central Oklahoma. To support the vision statement, potential transit investments identified through the LRTP will be evaluated through the goals to provide communities with meaningful access to transit, create a compelling and reliable rider experience, offer competitive service options, and utilize resources effectively.

The City of Norman is a project partner along with the City of Oklahoma City and City of Edmond in the LRTP initiative. The Norman City Council received a third plan update at a public meeting on 9/23/25 and a copy of the executive summary can be found at normanok.gov/media/22413.

"As Norman and the metro region continues to grow we must continue to plan for the future with investments our infrastructure and services, including public transportation," said Scott Sturtz, Director of Public Works. "I applaud the region coming together to plan for public transportation wholistically and encourage residents to review and comment on the proposed plan."
