Homer Glen, IL…State Representative Patrick Sheehan (R-Homer Glen) is condemning reports that Chicago Police officers were ordered not to assist federal agents who were surrounded and attacked by armed protesters during an anti-ICE demonstration on the city's southwest side.
"Politics being injected into policing is a big reason why we're seeing this shocking rise of violence against federal officers," Rep. Sheehan said. "Being told to stand down while fellow officers are in danger goes against every instinct, principle, and bit of training we hold dear."
According to internal dispatch records obtained by Fox News, Chicago's chief of patrol issued an order instructing officers not to respond to calls for help from Border Patrol and ICE agents who were boxed in and rammed by protesters. The agents were reportedly attacked with smoke, gas, and debris as they attempted to perform a routine operation. Federal authorities described the attackers as "domestic terrorists" and confirmed multiple arrests following the incident.
Mayor Brandon Johnson has previously referred to law enforcement as a "sickness" that must be "eradicated." The stand-down order, according to multiple Chicago police sources, reflects what they called "cowardice" from city leadership and a willingness to sacrifice officer safety for political optics.
Rep. Sheehan, a nearly 20-year police officer himself, said, " Our duty is to protect life, property, and those in need. I've seen and heard a lot from my time as an officer, but the 911 audio from this situation shocked and disgusted me. Things like this should NEVER happen."
Rep. Sheehan proudly serves the people of the 37th District.
