RESEARCHERS: Key NIH Policy Updates

The Office of Sponsored Programs encourages faculty and research staff to review the full NIH notices linked below and share with colleagues.

AI & Application Limits (NOT-OD-25-132, effective Sept. 25, 2025)

  • Guidance on appropriate use of AI in NIH applications; new limit of six new/renewal/resubmission/revision applications per PI per calendar year (all activity codes except T and R13)

Other Support Training (NOT-OD-25-133, effective Oct. 1, 2025)

  • Institutions must train all senior/key personnel on disclosure of all active and pending research activities. We are developing training to meet this requirement before it takes effect on October 1, 2025.

Funding Opportunity Notices (NOT-OD-25-143, effective FY26)

  • Grants.gov will become NIH's sole source for NOFOs; the NIH Guide will post only policy and information notices.

Common Forms Preview (NOT-OD-25-152, available by Sept. 15, 2025)

  • Preview versions of new Biographical Sketch and Current & Pending Support forms will be available in SciENcv before official launch in Nov. 2025.

International Collaborations (NOT-OD-25-155, anticipated Jan. 2026)

  • NIH will introduce a new application structure for projects with foreign components; traditional subaward/consortium approach will be phased out.
