LANSING, Mich. - In partnership with the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA), Gleaner Life Insurance Society's Capital Arbor #772 donated more than 130 care kits of essential items for Michigan veterans experiencing homelessness.

"Every one of these care kits represents more than just essential supplies, it sends a powerful message to Michigan veterans that their community cares," said MVAA homeless veteran coordinator Cassie Smith. "That kind of support is often the first step towards trust, stability and a path out of homelessness."

Daniel Zeiger, financial advisor and Gleaner Life representative, contacted the MVAA for assistance with donating hygiene products and care kits to veterans in need. Smith and MVAA senior communications representative, Natalie McCorvie, picked up more than 130 care kits to be given to organizations for distribution. The organizations that received the donations were Volunteers of America and EightCAP.

Essential items in care kits may include:

  • Travel-sized soap and shampoo
  • Toiletry items
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Clothing
  • First aid supplies
  • Blankets
  • Bags or backpacks

"The greatest joys in life are found not only in what we do, but in helping and serving others," said Zeiger. "It's an honor to give back to those who gave so much for us."
