Official newsletter of Santa Ana Mayor Valerie Amezcua.
Keeping the community informed about local events, City news, and resources.
Dear Neighbors,
As we welcome the month of November, I am reminded of how fortunate we are to be part of such a wonderful community. November is a special time of year when we begin to reflect on our blessings, appreciate the people around us, and embrace the spirit of gratitude, kindness, and togetherness.
I hope everyone had the opportunity to make their voices heard and participate in the democratic process by casting their vote on November 3. Voting is one of the most meaningful ways we can shape the future of our community, and I thank everyone who took the time to participate and make their voices count.
November brings with it many meaningful celebrations and opportunities to recognize the things that make our community strong. Throughout the month, we celebrate Native American Heritage Month, honoring the rich history, traditions, and contributions of Native American communities. On November 11, we observe Veterans Day, a time to recognize and express our deepest gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication deserve our appreciation every day.
As we move closer to Thanksgiving on November 26, I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on what they are thankful for. Whether it is family, friends, good health, or the kindness of a neighbor, there is always something to appreciate. Thanksgiving also reminds us of the importance of sharing, giving back, and extending a helping hand to those who may need a little extra support.
Also, as we approach the holiday season, I am excited to invite everyone to one of our community's special annual celebrations!
Please join us on Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Plaza Calle Cuatro for our Plaza Navideña Tree Lighting! This festive celebration is a wonderful opportunity to gather with family, friends, and neighbors as we welcome the holiday season. I look forward to seeing our community come together, share in the holiday spirit, and create special memories.
As your Mayor, I remain incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve this community. It is the people who make our city special: the families, small business owners, volunteers, students, seniors, and everyone who contributes to making our community a welcoming place to live, work, and grow.
May this November bring you moments of joy, meaningful connections, and countless reasons to be thankful. Let us continue to support one another, celebrate our shared accomplishments, and move forward together with hope and kindness.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, blessed, and Happy Thanksgiving!
With gratitude,
Mayor Valerie Amezcua

Habitat for Humanity has done it again! Six Santa Ana families qualified for new homes and participated in the build of their homes, creating pride and true ownership of their beautiful homes that you can see behind me. But wait, all six families were blessed with a brand new car that was a surprise as they opened their garages! Welcome to our families.
Contreras Grooming for Gentlemen, OC's Finest Barbers and Barberia El Catrin were recognized for their outstanding contribution at the Mayor's Annual Back-to-School Resource Fair. Thanks to our Barbers that prepared our children for the first day of school and boosted their confidence. It was a great reminder to our children that their community cares about them.
I was invited to sit with Bryan while he asked questions about Santa Ana's approach to homelessness. What works and what doesn't. Our work overlaps as we both have the same goal of helping people and giving them a second chance to succeed.
Thank you to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who donated 4 tons of food to our local Santa Ana non-profits and soup kitchens that distribute food to our families. With Latter Day Saints leadership and over 80 volunteers, Santa Ana Parks and Recreation and Santa Ana Police Department, the truck behind us was unloaded at Centennial Park. What a special day it was.
In partnership with Girl's Inc. and SAUSD, we had 200 girls from SAUSD, Charter Schools in Santa Ana and for the first time from Irvine, Fountain Valley, and Rancho Santa Margarita, AMAZING the reach we had. Thank you to our panelist, speakers, our resource fair, sponsors and volunteers. It truly takes a village, and all of our girls walked away with new ideas and opportunities to succeed!
Thank you to Congressman Lou Correa for bringing PFAS Treatment dollars to Santa Ana. Santa Ana takes great pride in having the best drinking water in the country. With these monies, we can continue to maintain a high standard quality of water for our residents.
Mater Dei held a groundbreaking for a new campus construction project as part of its Spirit of Mater Dei Campaign. This includes: A Performing Arts Center, Five new Tennis Courts and a new Campus Security Center Hub. It was wonderful to attend and support.
The first of its kind in our city, the Memorial Park Aquatic Center includes an exercise channel, water slide, lap pool and a kiddie area. I'm looking forward to many of our families learning to swim here or compete on a swim team. Many new memories will be made at the Aquatic Center!
I was honored to present a Proclamation to Legado 7, a distinctive musical identity that blends traditional norteno influences with a contemporary sound that resonates with a new generation. Congratulations and we wish you continued success in your musical journey!
It was educational to listen to nationally recognized economists Dr. Anil K. Puri and Dr. Mira Farka who shared insights into the current economic outlook for Orange County, the region and the nation. Link to report: https://csuf-2026-economic-forecast-report.pdf

Our Main Library has re-opened. It has been creatively redesigned with everyone in mind. There is a Teen Space, Community Room, Study Rooms, History Room, Design Room with sewing machines and six 3-D printers, Gaming Room, and Video/Audio Editing Room. We have books in Vietnamese, Spanish and English and now we have an outdoor play area for our families. In the Lounge with the renovated fireplace where I met one of our servicemen and was so honored to say thank you for his service.
One of our residents, Eddie Quillares, came up with a great idea! Use a golf cart to decorate and give treats from. Here I am with the First Place winners for most Decorative. It was colorful and touching to see their doggie's photo on their Dia de Los Muertos Altar.
This was our last quarterly meeting of the year. We had engagement, questions and ideas shared and answered by City staff and myself. I look forward to the next one. Thank you to our residents that showed up and I am grateful for your input.

Edible food recovery is important to prevent edible food from going to waste and instead go to individuals and families to combat food insecurity. OC landfills states, "more than 30% of material that enters California landfills is considered organic material. Organic material includes edible food…" With a collective effort on educating and taking action, recovering edible food preserves valuable landfill space and serves back to our community.
