Rebuilding Lake County: Construction season brings another round of major improvements to region

CHICAGO - Rebuild Illinois is continuing to improve mobility, safety and quality of life in Lake County, with the Illinois Department of Transportation delivering multiple major projects this construction season. Made possible by Gov. JB Pritzker's historic capital program, six projects combined represent a total investment of more than $108.8 million, creating and maintaining good-paying jobs throughout the region. ​ ​

"The historic Rebuild Illinois program continues to transform our infrastructure and enhance key economic corridors across the state," said Gov. Pritzker. "Our ambitious capital program is putting Illinoisans to work as we improve regional transportation systems, encourage new economic activity and build a better future for all of Illinois." ​ ​

Of the six major projects in Lake County, two are scheduled to be completed in 2026, with the remaining projects completed over the next two years.

"The state of Illinois is continuing its once-in-a-generation investment in our roads, bridges and public infrastructure here in Lake County," said Assistant House Majority Leader Bob Morgan (D-Highwood). "Ensuring residents can get to work, businesses can operate freely and people can travel safely throughout Lake County is not only good for business, but vital to a thriving economy. Families should be able to drive their children to school or head to work knowing that the roads they rely on are safe and dependable. I applaud Gov. Pritzker for his continued commitment to modernizing our infrastructure and making Lake County a safer, better-connected place to live."

"These investments through Rebuild Illinois have a meaningful impact for Lake County, improving the safety, reliability and efficiency of our roads," said Senate Majority Caucus Whip Julie Morrison (D-Lake Forest). "From drainage and storm sewer improvements to major work along U.S. 41 and Illinois 176, these projects will strengthen our transportation infrastructure while supporting our local economy. Passed in 2019, Rebuild Illinois is investing a total of $33.2 billion over six years into the state's aging transportation system, creating jobs and promoting economic growth. Rebuild Illinois is not only the largest capital program in state history, but also the first that touches all modes of transportation: roads and bridges, transit, waterways, freight and passenger rail, aviation, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations. ​ ​ ​ ​
