FREDERICTON (GNB) - The government has declared November Family Violence Prevention Month.
This annual initiative calls on all New Brunswickers to work together toward safer, stronger and healthier communities.
"This month, we honour survivors, thank those on the front lines and support organizations that bring care and hope," said Lyne Chantal Boudreau, minister responsible for women's equality. "Through education, awareness and support, we can build a safer, more respectful future where every family lives free from violence."
The declaration highlights the government's continued efforts to prevent family violence and encourages collective action to reduce its impact on people and communities. This priority is emphasized during key dates during the month, including Nov. 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
For 40 years, the Fergusson Foundation has been an advocate for eliminating family violence in New Brunswick, through funding, education and support services.
"Family violence affects everyone, including individuals, families and communities," said Jay Michaud, president of the foundation's board of directors. "It is a widespread issue that holds back healthy growth and development in society. Family Violence Prevention Month reminds us to work together to spread awareness, support those who have been affected and take steps to create a safer, more respectful future for everyone."
