House Adopts Flick’s Resolution Recognizing Little League World Series Week

June 30, 2026

HARRISBURG - Recognizing its cherished tradition and the significant impact it has on the Commonwealth, Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) announced Aug. 19-30, 2026, will be recognized as "Little League World Series Week" in Pennsylvania. The designation follows the successful passage of a resolution he sponsored, which was approved by an overwhelming majority in the House of Representatives.

House Resolution 554 honors the Little League World Series, which is held each year in South Williamsport, the birthplace of Little League. It also recognizes Carl E. Stotz, who founded Little League in 1939.

"I'm proud to pay tribute to Carl, whose vision and dedication gave rise to Little League and helped shape generations of young athletes," Flick said. "This resolution is an opportunity to celebrate the value of teamwork, sportsmanship and community that continue to define the Little League World Series and our region."

Each year tens of thousands of visitors from around the world travel to South Williamsport for the Little League World Series. It's estimated the event bring in $40 million to the economy as teams from Canada to Cuba, Texas to Taiwan, and Pennsylvania to Puerto Rico compete to become world champions.

Flick, who has not missed a Little League World Series tournament for more than 50 years, serves as a team host and hosts an annual picnic for two of the participating teams.

"This resolution ensures we continue to honor the history and values Little League represents," Flick said. "I'm looking forward to this year's World Series and to welcoming the young athletes and families who make this event so special."

In speaking on the House floor in support of his resolution, Flick paid tribute to Karen Stotz Myers, the daughter of Stotz, who remains an active advocate for preserving and recognizing the league's original field about five miles from where the World Series is played today. He also recognized Billy Martin of Houston, Texas., who threw the first no-hitter in the 1950 Little League World Series and continues to return to the tournament.
