Pharmacy Student Represents UIW Nationally on Board of Directors for the Pharmacy Leadership Society

The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) Feik School of Pharmacy (FSOP) has demonstrated its commitment to educating quality pharmacy professions by earning a variety of notable achievements in the year 2026. From achieving the highest match rate in the state of Texas this year to ranking #1 in the state and #7 in the nation for passing rates on the national licensure exam, FSOP students continue to demonstrate their readiness to provide quality care to the communities they'll serve.

One of these remarkable students is a third-year Doctor of Pharmacy student, Jaclyn Moreno.

While attending UIW for the past seven years, Moreno completed her Bachelor of Business Administration in 2023 and Master of Business Administration in 2025 and is currently working towards a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from FSOP. Jaclyn has been involved in a number of student-led and professional organizations representing UIW locally, regionally and nationally.

"What I have enjoyed most about studying pharmacy is the ability to make a meaningful impact on patient lives within our local communities," shared Moreno. "Whether it is serving patients at health fairs, immunizing children in local school districts, or caring for critically ill patients alongside the healthcare team, each experience reinforces the purpose behind this profession."

Recently, Moreno was elected to serve as National Speaker of the House on the 2026-2027 Board of Directors for Phi Lambda Sigma, also known as the Pharmacy Leadership Society (PLS). Since its founding in 1965, PLS seeks to "promote the development of leadership qualities, especially among pharmacy students."

Moreno values opportunities that allow her to advocate for policies that impact patient care administered in the state and beyond. Additionally, being a part of multiple pharmacy-focused organizations allows her to build relationships with student pharmacists from all over, all of whom will contribute towards advancing their profession forward. Her newest appointment, all the more expands her impact as she continues to nurture her passion for pharmacy and patient care.

"I first joined Phi Lambda Sigma at the beginning of my P2 year, seeking to surround myself with individuals committed to developing into the next generation of pharmacy leaders," noted Moreno. "Soon after my induction, I was elected as president-elect, and I am now concluding my term as president in my P3 year. The support I received from my local chapter advisors and officers, as well as engagement with former PLS board members, inspired me to pursue involvement at the national level."

Moreno is incredibly grateful to serve as the National Speaker of the House and looks forward to representing pharmacy students across the United States. In her new role, she will preside over the Annual House of Delegates and serve on both the Bylaws and Nominating Committees - allowing her to help guide meaningful organizational and professional advancements in the year ahead.

"I am excited to collaborate with fellow Board members from across the country and continue advancing the mission of Phi Lambda Sigma," expressed Moreno. "I could not be prouder to be a Cardinal as I enter my final year of pharmacy school."

"Jaclyn is a superstar in leadership at the FSOP," said Dean of FSOP, David Maize, RPh, PhD. "Her work in many organizations, and particularly in the FSOP Student Government, is exemplary. It is not surprising that her leadership ability is being recognized at the national level. We are very proud of her and how she represents the FSOP."

Congratulations, Jaclyn Moreno!
