Canadian Singer-Songwriter & Previous Emerging Artist of the Year Nominee Returns to AmericanaFest for Multiple Performances Next Week

September 3, 2025 - John Prine Songwriter Fellowship recipient and two-time JUNO Award winner William Prince has unveiled "For The First Time," a poignant new single and video from his forthcoming album Further From the Country, out October 17 via Six Shooter Records. Following the album's announcement this summer, "For The First Time" arrives as one of Prince's most personal works to date - a meditation on how grief reshapes itself with time, and how love endures even as we learn to live without those we've lost.

"We grow without the people we've lost - not because we love them less, but because we get better at living, and loving ourselves more," says Prince. Anchored by piano and strings and carried by Prince's rich, resonant voice, the song's accompanying music video mirrors the lyrics' intimacy, featuring Prince with his guitar, singing in front of his pickup truck on a deserted highway.

With Further From the Country, Prince expands his sound and perspective with a commanding body of work that explores grief, identity, and ambition through the lens of his upbringing in Peguis First Nation, Manitoba. Raised in a close-knit Indigenous community and shaped by deep musical traditions, Prince's new songs draw on childhood memories-both joyful and difficult-as a way to process the injustices and complexities of today's world.

The album's title track, a soaring opener that moves like a rocket breaking through gravity's pull, sets the tone for a project that is equal parts panoramic and intimate. From the dusty highways of lead single "On Rolls the Wheel" to the family portraits captured in "For the First Time" and "The Charmer," Prince's songwriting once again proves to be both acutely unique and universally resonant.

Further From the Country is produced by Liam Duncan (aka Boy Golden), Prince's labelmate and trusted creative partner, who also worked with Prince on his Spotify Singles Session in 2023. Together, they crafted a rich sonic landscape with contributions from Prince's longtime bandmates and members of Duncan's "Church of Better Daze" collective. The album was recorded in Winnipeg and features performances from a hometown ensemble including Alyshia Grace, Cody Iwasiuk, Ben Plotnick, Kristopher Ulrich, and more.

Further From the Country is out October 17 via Six Shooter Records. Pre-order / pre-save the album HERE .
