WORKING VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS TO

NAY PYI TAW, MYANMAR

9 OCTOBER 2025

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan will undertake a working visit to Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, on 9 October 2025. The one-day visit is being undertaken pursuant to the decision of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in July 2025. The Foreign Minister will be accompanied by the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar Tan Sri Othman Hashim.

During the visit, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to pay Courtesy Calls on the Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) of Myanmar Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Prime Minister and Union Minister for National Planning U Nyo Saw. The Foreign Minister will also meet with Union Minister of Foreign Affairs U Than Swe.

In his engagements, the Foreign Minister will, amongst others, call for full and meaningful implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus (5PC), specifically on cessation of hostilities, allowing unhindered humanitarian access and holding inclusive dialogue with Myanmar stakeholders. The planned elections in Myanmar is also expected to be discussed during the engagements.

Malaysia emphasises that this engagement is undertaken under the capacity of the ASEAN Chair in support of peace, stability and development in Myanmar, an integral part of the ASEAN family. Malaysia's focus remains on promoting a Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led solution to the crisis, with the support of ASEAN.

This working visit is a testament to ASEAN's resolute commitment to peace, stability, and a durable solution in Myanmar. Malaysia, as the Chair of ASEAN in 2025, will continue to actively engage with all Myanmar stakeholders in pursuit of an inclusive and sustainable path towards peace and national reconciliation.
