Nairobi, 7th October, 2025
The Association of Private Ambulance Owners in Kenya (APAO-K) today paid a courtesy call to the Chief Officer for Disaster Management and Coordination, Mr. Bram Simiyu, to explore potential areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening emergency medical response and disaster preparedness in Nairobi County.
During the meeting, discussions centered on creating a coordinated framework that integrates private ambulance services into the County's disaster response system. The partnership seeks to enhance efficiency, reduce response times, and ensure that residents receive timely and quality emergency medical care.
Chief Officer Simiyu welcomed the initiative, noting that private ambulance providers play a vital role in supplementing County emergency services.
"Building a resilient city requires synergy between the public and private sectors. By working together, we can create a more responsive and reliable emergency system that serves Nairobians better," said Mr. Simiyu.
He further acknowledged the strategic role the Association will play once it formalizes its partnership with the County through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), emphasizing that such collaboration will be instrumental in improving coordination and resource mobilization during emergencies.
The APAO-K delegation expressed their readiness to collaborate with the County in areas such as capacity building, joint training, policy formulation, and information sharing to improve coordination during emergencies.
The meeting marks an important step toward establishing a structured partnership framework between Nairobi County and private ambulance operators, paving the way for improved health and safety outcomes in the city.
