FedEx Recycling Program Transforms Four Tons of Uniforms into More Than Six Thousand Blankets for Communities in Need

Federal Express Corporation, the world's largest express transportation company, is carrying out the 11th edition of the FedEx Uniform Recycling Program in Brazil. The initiative transforms old uniforms into blankets intended for people in situations of social vulnerability and animals cared for by NGOs. This year, the company allocated 4,230 kg of uniforms for recycling, resulting in approximately 5,000 blankets for people and 1,250 smaller-sized units for pets.

Since the beginning of the program in 2015, FedEx has given a new purpose to 93,000 uniform items, equivalent to approximately 30 tons of textile materials, which have been transformed into more than 37,000 blankets. This year, most of the larger blankets will be directed to the Salvation Army, an institution supported by FedEx that carries out winter campaigns in different regions of Brazil. The remaining blankets will be donated to charitable organizations nominated by company employees. The smaller blankets will be sent to the NGO Cão sem Dono, which currently cares for approximately 500 rescued dogs, as well as other organizations.

"The Uniform Recycling Program is an example of how we seek to generate value beyond business, bringing together two fundamental pillars of our operations: sustainability and social responsibility. By transforming out-of-use uniforms into blankets for donation, we ensure the responsible disposal of these materials while directly contributing to support the communities where we operate," says Gabriel Kayser, Director director of mMarketing and cCustomer eExperience at FedEx in Brazil.
