Royal Oak Welcomes Isaac Kremer as New Downtown Development Authority Director

The City of Royal Oak is pleased to announce that Isaac Kremer has been appointed as the Downtown Development Authority's new Director. He began his new role on Monday, September 15.

Kremer comes to Royal Oak from Princeton, New Jersey, where he served as founding executive director for Experience Princeton. He is a nationally recognized leader in the Main Street Approach to commercial district revitalization, bringing more than two decades of experience in downtown organization, strategy, promotion, design, and economic vitality.

Kremer's interest in placemaking started early. He grew up in Metro Detroit with a small-business-owner mother, which sparked his interest in business support. Through his undergraduate and graduate studies, he explored economic development, urban planning, and historic preservation, earning a master's degree in historic preservation planning from Cornell University and a bachelor's degree in economics and management from Albion College.

"I'm thrilled to be back where my career began," Kremer said. "As a person with deep Michigan roots, I can't imagine a better place to be."

Kremer brings a variety of certifications, including Main Street America Revitalization Professional (MSARP), Strategic Doing Practitioner from the Strategic Doing Institute, Historic Real Estate Finance from Grow America (formerly the National Development Council), Economic Development 101 from the International Economic Development Council, and How to Turn a Place Around from the Project for Public Spaces. Over the course of his career, he has secured more than $3.5 million in grants and has leveraged more than $1 billion of investment. His work has been highlighted in over 30 national conferences, including AARP Livable Communities, Main Street America, the International Downtown Association, and others.

"I'm excited to join a team of true professionals who are committed to serving the public and our many stakeholders," Kremer said.
