Strong voter support advances investments in public safety and Tranquility Park without increasing the City of Omaha property tax levy
OMAHA, NE - Omaha voters approved both Building a Better Omaha bond questions Tuesday by decisive margins. According to unofficial results from the Douglas County Election Commission, the Tranquility Park bond received 74.4% support, while the Police and Fire Headquarters bond received 69% support.
The measures authorize up to $155 million for public facilities and $30 million for parks and recreation improvements. The investments will advance a modern, joint Police and Fire headquarters at Crossroads and the redevelopment of Tranquility Park, with no increase to the City's property tax levy anticipated.
"What a great outcome for Omaha. These are two very different projects, but both will make a real difference in Omaha for generations to come," said Nate Dodge, Chair of the Building a Better Omaha Committee and Chair and CEO of NP Dodge Company. "One will give the men and women who protect our community the modern headquarters they need. The other will create a place where generations of kids and families will play, compete, make friends, and build memories."
The campaign united business leaders, police officers, firefighters, youth sports organizations, and community advocates. The Omaha Police Officers Association and Omaha Professional Fire Fighters Local 385 also endorsed the public safety measure.
"This truly took everyone," Dodge said. "From parents and families to business leaders, community organizations, and our public safety professionals, people came together around a shared vision for Omaha's future. Every conversation mattered, and I'm incredibly proud of what we accomplished together."
Heath Mello, President & CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber, said the results reflect the community's commitment to responsible investments that support Omaha's continued growth.
"Omaha voters have sent a clear message that they believe in investing in our community's future," Mello said. "These projects address important needs in public safety and quality of life while making responsible use of the resources already available to our city. They will strengthen Omaha's ability to serve its residents, support our families, and remain a community where people and businesses want to build their futures."
"This victory belongs to the entire community," Mello added. "I want to thank Nate Dodge for his tremendous leadership and everyone who helped build support for these projects. Omaha is at its best when we work together toward a shared goal."
