The University of Hartford's Barney School of Business welcomed students, alumni, and industry leaders to the annual Corine T. Norgaard Networking Night. Blending meaningful dialogue, practical advice, and intentional networking, the event demonstrated the power of the Barney alumni network and the school's commitment to preparing career-ready leaders.
The evening in UHart's 1877 Club began with an energetic networking reception, where students exchanged business cards and LinkedIn information with alumni and professionals across a number of industries. Attendees also heard from keynote speaker Lorraine Morhardt '95, M'07, Senior Vice President and Chief Claims Officer at HSB. A proud Barney alumna and Board of Visitors member, Morhardt encouraged students to raise their hand, show up, and take advantage of opportunities.
Afterwards, there were roundtable discussions which allowed students to engage in smaller, more personal conversations with alumni and industry leaders.
Co-led by the Women in Business Club, the event emphasized inclusive leadership and the importance of empowering the next generation of professionals. Students asked thoughtful questions about mentorship, work-life integration, and building credibility early in their careers.
The workshop honors the legacy of Corine T. Norgaard, a beloved professor, distinguished scholar, and former dean of the Barney School of Business who passed away in 2011. Known for her commitment to student success and academic excellence, Norgaard championed experiential learning and strong industry partnerships, values that continue to shape the Barney School's programming today.
Hosted in partnership with the Office of Institutional Advancement, Presidents' College, and The Women's Advancement Initiative, the Corine T. Norgaard Networking and Leadership Workshops bring the Barney community together in the spirit of collaboration and leadership development.
