WASHINGTON - Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters elected Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley as Governor of Wisconsin.
"David Crowley's election means the gun lobby's losing streak in Wisconsin's gubernatorial elections isn't ending anytime soon," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "Governor Evers never wavered in standing up for Wisconsin families' safety, and Governor-elect Crowley can count on Everytown's full support as he builds on that life-saving record."
"Governor-elect Crowley understands what's at stake for Wisconsin families, and our volunteers made sure voters knew it," said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. "They spent months on doors and phones across the state because this race was too important to sit out. They'll be with him from day one."
"David Crowley has been a stellar partner in the fight for safer communities, and we're thrilled to see him elected governor," said Briana Allen, a volunteer with the Wisconsin chapter of Moms Demand Action. "Wisconsin volunteers are ready to work with him to pass the gun safety laws our families have been waiting for."
This cycle, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund, and the Democratic Governors Association, announced a $3 million effort to elect gun-sense governors in Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, and Wisconsin. Last cycle, Everytown helped elect former Moms Demand Action volunteer Abigail Spanberger as Governor of Virginia, and in her first legislative session, she signed a ban on the sale of assault weapons and 20 other gun safety bills into law.
Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund endorsed 503 gun safety champions running at every level of government, from statehouses to governor's offices. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made more than 15 million voter contacts to help elect them.
