UNESCO and Partners champion ethical innovation in AI with a new prize

Each laureate will receive a monetary reward of US $30,000, a Beruniy medal, and a certificate. The first laureate to come on stage was Professor Virgilio Almeida, Emeritus at Federal University of Minas Gerais. He was recognized for advancing ethical, inclusive, and human-centered AI. As Brazil's former IT Policy Secretary, he has shaped internet governance worldwide. His research examines how AI and algorithms affect democracy and inequality, advocating for ethical, democratic tech governance
