Athens, Ga. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering resources to upgrade the community center at Howard Park.

Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver Federal funding to help Athens-Clarke County expand the community center at Howard Park. With the funding, Athens-Clarke County plans to upgrade the gym at the park.

Sen. Ossoff is delivering $3,491,000 for the project through bipartisan government funding legislation that became law on February 3.

"Georgia families deserve more high-quality public spaces to enjoy. That's why I brought Republicans and Democrats together to help expand the community center at Howard Park," Sen. Ossoff said.

"We in Athens-Clarke County are deeply grateful to Senator Ossoff and his team for the grant supporting full build-out of Howard Park. This will allow us to offer more programming to the young people who live and learn in the neighborhood. Students from the elementary, middle and high schools just up the street will have access to so much more opportunity, and will experience an infusion of positive resources into their lives. Athens-Clarke County will see dividends from greater economic mobility to improved public safety as a result," said Kelly Girtz, Mayor of the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government.

"This funding will enable significant progress to be made on this project and will have long-lasting benefit for the residents in the surrounding neighborhoods. I greatly appreciate the continued partnership between Athens-Clarke County and the Senator's Office," said Athens-Clarke County Manager Bob Cowell.

"Howard Park is a great community center in the middle of Athens close to so many residents. Seeing this funding come along to make this project whole for this community will impact the lives of kids to seniors in Athens-Clarke County. I am so thankful for this funding being awarded and grateful to the team that made this possible," said Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Interim Director Alex Bond.
