COLUMBUS - State Representative Melanie Miller (R-Ashland) is pleased to announce that numerous local school districts in Ashland and Medina Counties were recently awarded funding from the Ohio School Bus Safety Grant Program-totaling more than $96,817.
As part of the state operating budget, the Legislature provided $10 million toward helping school districts offset the costs of upgrading their bus fleets with advanced safety equipment. Flexible guidelines allowed each school district to best utilize the funds to promote safety in their fleet.
"I'm proud to see Ohio invest $10 million in school bus safety to ensure our students travel to and from school as safely as possible," said Rep. Miller. "With more than $96,817 awarded to districts in Ashland and Medina counties - including Ashland City, Hillsdale, Mapleton, Brunswick City, and Buckeye Local - this funding will help our local schools add critical safety features and protect children on every route. Keeping our students safe is always a top priority, and I applaud the state's commitment to supporting our schools with these resources."
The list of awardees in the 67th House District is the following:
Ashland County
Medina County
Every school district that applied for assistance with eligible equipment received an award. Schools may use the funds to incorporate safety enhancements in new buses or add safety technology to buses currently in service.
"School buses transport our most precious passengers, and we have a responsibility to make sure every ride is as safe as possible," added Rep. Miller.
