NEW: U.S. Job Market Shed Jobs and Unemployment Ticks Up Under Donald Trump and JD Vance Arrow

Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its jobs report for February, revealing that the U.S. lost 92,000 jobs in February and the unemployment rate bumped up to 4.4% - worse than forecasted. Now, since Donald Trump imposed his reckless tariffs, the total job gains from May 2025 to February 2026 are -19,000.

Trump and JD Vance claim that private sector job growth fuels their "winning" economy, but private sector jobs are down 86,000, the worst drop since December 2020. The number of long-term unemployed workers ticked up to 1.9 million, up from a year earlier, accounting for 25.3% of all unemployed people in February.

This report follows the disastrous January jobs report released last month, which showed that under Trump, there were only 181,000 jobs added in all of 2025, marking the worst year for job growth since 2003, excluding recessions.

In response, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement:

"Working families are being pushed to the brink as Donald Trump's job market tanks and prices soar. Rather than focus on improving the economy, Trump and JD Vance are abandoning Americans and plunging the U.S. into an illegal and reckless foreign war - with no end in sight. Trump's economy isn't working for everyday Americans who are struggling to put gas in their cars or find good jobs - it's only working for him and his rich friends."

Americans are fed up with Trump's tanking economy: 70% of Americans believe that Trump's economic policies are driving up costs, including a majority of Republicans. As a result of Trump's reckless trade war, American households paid an estimated $2,120 more due to Trump's inflation in 2025 - including $123 more on electricity costs and $150 more on groceries - and Trump has offered no real solutions to bring down costs, instead doubling down on his reckless tariffs.
