Wildfire Devastation Demands Action: Congress Must Pass the Fix Our Forests Act Now

WASHINGTON - The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) issued the following statement calling on Congress to pass the Fix Our Forests Act (S. 1462). The following statement may be attributed to David A. Sampson, APCIA's president and CEO:

"The devastating wildfires unfolding across the country underscore the urgent need for Congress to pass the bipartisan Fix Our Forests Act. The legislation would help reduce catastrophic wildfire risk through better forest management, hazardous fuels reduction, and stronger community resilience efforts. We cannot afford to remain trapped in a cycle of disaster and recovery. Congress should act now to advance proven mitigation solutions that help protect lives, property, and the long-term affordability and availability of insurance."

The bipartisan Fix Our Forests Act passed the House in January 2025. The Senate Agriculture Committee advanced the Senate version in October 2025, but the legislation has yet to be considered by the full Senate.

"We urge Senate leaders to move S. 1462 or include the Fix Our Forests Act in the next appropriate legislative package to ensure this critical legislation is enacted as soon as possible."

APCIA and a broad range of organizations support the Fix Our Forests Act. Last month, more than 40 organizations advocated for the inclusion of the Fix Our Forests Act as an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act. The letter can be found here .
