Becker's Healthcare Recognizes UToledo Health Leader

Russell Smith, the chief operating officer of the University of Toledo Medical Center, has been named by Becker's Hospital Reviewto its list of academic medical center COOs to know for 2025.
The honor recognizes academic medical center and health system chief operating officers for their commitment to driving operational excellence and strengthening healthcare delivery.

A board-certified pharmacist, Smith been with UToledo Health since 1995, starting his career as an inpatient pharmacist. He previously served as pharmacy operations manager, director of pharmacy, chief pharmacy officer and senior hospital administrator.
He was named UTMC chief operating officer in June, a role in which he continues to oversee pharmacy, laboratory and radiology operations, the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center and other ancillary services.
In addition to his work at UToledo Health, Smith is a member of the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System Board of Trustees, representing non-teaching college and university employees.
